Leecia Eve Bows Out of Lieutenant Governor's Race

By Associated Press

Buffalo, NY – A Democratic Party tussel over who should be Eliot Spitzer's running mate is over. Leecia Eve announced Monday in Manhattan that she won't seek the party's nomination for lieutenant governor.

Eve is the daughter of former state Assemblyman Arthur Eve of Buffalo and a former counsel to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Spitzer is the two-term state attorney general who's running for governor this year. He has selected state Senate Minority Leader David Paterson of Manhattan as his running mate for the November election. Paterson is the highest ranking black elected official in New York's state government.

Eve says she'll serve as an adviser to Spitzer and Paterson during the campaign.
