Buffalo, NY – Buffalo firefighters have some brand new fire trucks. Five new custom fire engines are now in service.
The new fire apparatus is part of a systematic replacement policy that is part of a major re-engineering of the entire department. Buffalo Fire Commissioner Michael D'Orazio and Mayor Maseillo showed off the new trucks Monday morning in front of City Hall. D'Orazio says the new vehicles will allow the fire department to enhance its front line of trucks as well as its reserve fleet.
"We service a lot of vehicles in house. Our mechanics do a wonderful job with bandaids," D'Orazio said. "Accepting these five pumpers allows us to have 25 percent of our front line engines be brand new."
The fire department will receive two new ladder trucks that arrive in February.
Total cost for all the vehicles is $2.75 million. The city has received state funding to re-engineer the department.
