Depew Village Justice Censured by State Commission

Albany, NY – The state Commission on Judicial Conduct censured Depew Village Court Judge John Cipolla Wednesday.

The commission charged Cipolla with three off-the-bench incidents. In one, Cipolla is accused of showing his judicial badge to a club bouncer during an argument with his girlfriend.

He also wrote a federal agency asking for information about his then-girlfriend, pretending to be a potential employer. And he allegedly "took care" of her speeding ticket.

The commission administrator favored removing Cipolla from the bench. But the full commission voted for censure because the incidents were personal and occurred during a short period in his first year on the bench.

Still, Depew Mayor Joseph McIntosh is calling on Cipolla to resign. (Copyright 2002 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) APNP 10-09-02 1743EDT
