Buffalo, NY – Child and Adolescent Treatment Services says bullying is a form of abuse.
President of CATS Bonnie Glazer tells WBFO News no matter how much pain, someone is in, there is always a better solution than taking your life.
"The problem with suicide is that it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, and its one of the things that the "It Gets Better" campaign is really working on highlighting. Problems can be solved, but you have to be alive to solve them," said Glazer.
Glazer noted that although bullying is a common occurrence, it doesn't make it acceptable.
"There are many behaviors that we do see in children and adolescents as they develop, but that's not saying that we should tolerate those particular behaviors. We need to be teachers, we need to be educators, that when a child is engaging in bullying behavior it's unacceptable aggression," said Glazer.
Glazer said bullies need help just as much as those that are bullied, and this issue of bullying highlights the need for people to pay attention to children who are distressed.
