Buffalo, NY – Buffalo is gearing up for the largest two-day food festival in the United States. The Taste of Buffalo begins Saturday. Once again this year, the Independent Health Foundation is helping with some delicious Healthy Options. Each restaurant that participates will also offer a healthy option.
Executive director of the foundation Carrie Meyer says the Taste is leading the way with offering dishes that are lower in fat, cholesterol, and sodium.
"These are sample sizes that they do at the Taste of Buffalo, but we do require that every restaurant that has a healthy option at the Taste every year, they must serve it at their restaurant for the remainder of the year," said Meyer.
The Taste is the only food festival in the United States that requires all of the restaurants to have a healthy option menu.
"It's only been three years that we've mandated this at the Taste of Buffalo, that were the only Taste in the nation that mandates every restaurant to offer a healthy option. We have a team here that still analyzes all the recipes and then gives them some ideas of you know, some healthier alternatives that they can maybe use," said Meyer.
The Taste runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. along Delaware Avenue to Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.
