UB students react to Osama bin Laden's death

By Ashley Hassett

Amherst, NY – WBFO News spoke with some students at UB's North campus in the aftermath of Osama bin Laden's death.

Students of Muslim-American descent said they hope his death strengthen America's ties with foreign countries and help to dismantle other terrorist organizations.

Students only wanted to give their first names. Ayyaz said his extended family in Pakistan is celebrating and hopes it brings both counties a step closer to peace.

"That had declared a war not just on the United States, but also Pakistan because Pakistan decided to be an ally with the United States in the war against terrorism. So they took their toll out on the innocent people, just like they did in the United States. So 35,000 innocent people are dead so of course the families back there are happy," said Ayyaz.

UB student Sarah said she hopes this will bring an end to the war.

"I hope that things do change and I hope that we do have a more peaceful world, and that we pull out of Iraq, we pull out of Afghanistan, we pull out of Pakistan, we pull out of Libya. Now that our bogey man is dead why would we remain in those countries," said Sarah.

Another UB student noted that she had wished bin Laden was brought to trial. She said even an unfair trial would have given her closure after years waiting for his capture.
