Buffalo, NY – Riverside High School on Ontario Street in Buffalo was placed in a lockdown Tuesday morning after a handgun was found in a locker.
Buffalo Police say they took one student into custody. The lockdown lasted about one hour.
Police were called to the school just before 10'o'clock after a security guard discovered the gun during a routine check of a tenth grade student's locker. All students remained in their classrooms until the Police Department arrived to remove the gun.
According to school security, the student who brought the gun to school said he had no intention of using it to harm anyone on school grounds, but felt he needed it for protection in his neighborhood. The student, who lives in the Bailey Genesee area of the city, is in custody of the police with charges pending.
