On this day in WNY history...

Niagara Falls – On July 5th, 1930, George L. Stathakis, 46, author from Buffalo, died after going over Niagara Falls in an oak barrel; he had survived the plunge but suffocated after his barrel was trapped under the falls. His turtle "Sunny Boy" survived.
