Kenmore, NY – One local auto dealer says if the government fails to help the auto industry it will be catastrophic to Western New York. The president and CEO of Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore says it is more than just helping the Big Three auto makers.
Paddock along Delaware Avenue has been one of the most successful dealerships in the Nation, ranked 7th worldwide in overall volume for Chevy dealers. But in recent months, Paddock is feeling the economic pitch. Owner Duane Paddock was recently forced to layoff nine employees because of the slow down. Paddock admits it has been a trying time.
Paddock says if the auto industry suffers it will effect many businesses from collision shops to advertisers. Paddock says auto makers are not asking for a bail out but a bridge loan to carry them through 2009. He says it is disappointing to see the government quickly running to the aid of the banking industry, while putting off the auto industry.
Last week business picked up at the Chevy dealer. Paddock says GM incentives are working and consumer are getting loans. Paddock says he believes General Motors will be able to convince federal leaders this week that they have a plan keep the company viable. Paddock says the bridge loan would protect tens of thousands of jobs in Western New York.
