Buffalo, NY – Unconventional teaching methods are often portrayed on the movie screens. Fictional characters take the form of Maverick teachers. But in the real classroom these methods are proving to be effective in teaching students. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley talks with a U.B. Professor who studies real life maverick teachers.

Catherine Cornbleth is a professor of Learning and Instruction at UB. She studies unconventional teaching methods in the classroom. She has authored a book, Diversity and the New Teacher: Learning from Experience in Urban Schools. Cornbleth has a top ten list of Maverick teacher movies that display Hollywood's famous teaching characters, from The Paper Chase in 1973 to Dead Poets Society 1989 and more recently the School of Rock.
