Buffalo, NY – Bills tight end Kevin Everett arrived at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday morning to watch Buffalo's home season finale, less than four months since sustaining a severe spinal cord injury on the same turf.
Everett addressed teammates about two hours before the game against the Giants. He then watched the game from owner Ralph Wilson's stadium suite.
Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said Everett, who has spent the past 2 1/2 months rehabbing in Houston, where he makes his offseason home, would not be available for interviews.
Television cameras were on hand to record Everett as he walked from his vehicle into the locker room. Because of adverse weather conditions, he did not join his teammates on the field as they were introduced prior to the game.
Everett's attendance is the latest step in a remarkable recovery after doctors initially feared he'd never walk again. Everett was paralyzed from the neck down after he was hurt tackling Denver's Domenik Hixon in Buffalo's season opener Sept. 9.
Hixon now plays for the Giants and hoped to meet with Everett at some point during the day.
Everett is now walking under his own power, and continues his rehab as an outpatient at Houston's Memorial Hermann/TIRR.
Everett's visit inspired the Bills to an early 14-0 lead over the Giants. But heavy rains and strong winds moved in. The Giants used a strong running game, and two interception returns for touchdowns, to beat Buffalo 38 to 21.
