Buffalo, NY – National Grid reports it will be forced to boost its electrical rates for area customers in the new year.
Company officials said customers in Western New York will be seeing an increase in their electric bills. Local National Grid spokesman Steve Brady said the increase is largely due to the impact of higher electrical supply costs and high natural gas costs.
"The electricity prices, this is actual supply itself, has gone up dramatically in the last several months, largely because of the hurricane in the gulf coast. It has has such a detrimental impact on the cost of natural gas," said Brady.
But Brady said it is actually costing local customers a little less than other parts of the Country, because there are more electrical supply options our region.
In Western New York, customers will pay about $5.50 more a month.
