Rochester, NY – Thomas Golisano, who turned his Rochester-area business into the nation's largest payroll services provider, is stepping down as CEO and president of the company he founded.
Paychex Incorporated announced Monday morning that Golisano will turn over his positions to former IBM executive Jonathan Judge.
Golisano -- who owns the NHL's Buffalo Sabres -- will remain as chairman of the Paychex board of directors.
He founded the company in Rochester in 1971 with one employee and 40 clients. Today, Paychex serves more than a half million clients and employs 9,400 people. Revenues for fiscal 2004 totaled nearly $1.3 billion dollars.
Golisano, 62, says he wants to spend more time with his family and will pursue other interests, including politics. He has made three unsuccessful runs for governor of New York.
