One Strike Looms, Another Labor Dispute Over

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Union steel workers at Outokumpu-American Brass in Buffalo have unanimously authorized a strike.

Members of the United Steel Workers Local 593 held a "strike vote" over the weekend. The union say the company is trying to negotiate wage and pension give- backs.

The workers' contract expires on April 1st.

A labor dispute has ended for local American Axle workers. Members of the United Auto Workers ratified a new tentative four-year contract Sunday.

The union staged a one-day strike at the end of last month. American Axle has plants in Buffalo, Tonawanda and Cheektowaga.

The union says the new contract guarantees that American Axle keep its US facilities opened.
