Music Notes: New Klezmer CD

Amrom Chodos

A local composer records a new CD of Klezmer music.By Bill Raffel, WBFO

Buffalo, NY – Local composer Amrom Chodos releases a CD of original Klezmer music with a Klezmer party on Saturday. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

Chodos teaches music at Barker Central in Niagara County and also plays clarinet with the Niagara Symphony in Saint Catharines. But aside from classical music, Amrom also enjoys Klezmer, the folk music of Jewish Eastern Europe.

And you're invited to join Amrom Chodos to celebrate the release of his new CD, Chicken Noodle Soup, Saturday (1/31) between 4 and 10 p.m. That's in the Unitarian Universalist Church at 6320 Main Street in Williamsville.

Also this week, the Buffalo Philharmonic is preparing to record a CD in tribute to painter Charles Burchfield, in collaboration with the Burchfield-Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College. This Friday (1/30) and Saturday (1/31) at 8 p.m., JoAnn Falletta and the orchestra will give a preview with Morton Gould's Burchfield Portrait based upon several Burchfield paintings, along with Sibelius's Second Symphony. There's a pre-concert talk Friday at 7 p.m., with Burchfield paintings on display in the Mary Seaton room.

Also this week, Mikhail Baryshnikov joins Pianist Peja Muzijevic Friday (1/30) and Saturday (1/31) at 8 p.m. in UB's Center for the Arts for an evening of contemporary ballet, choregraphed to Schumann, Berg, and Cage among others. And Father Earle King gives a free half-hour organ recital Friday (1/30) at 12:30 in Saint Paul's Cathedral.
