Tonawanda, NY – A six-vehicle crash Thursday night on the Youngmann Highway (I-290) in Tonawanda left one person dead and several others injured.
Police say the crash shortly before 7pm involved four cars and two tractor-trailers. They say an unloaded car-transport tractor-trailer collided with a car in the westbound lanes and then crossed the median into the eastbound lanes, striking another tractor-trailer head-on along with several other cars.
One person, the driver of one of the cars, was transported to Kenmore Mercy Hospital, where he died. He was identified by Tonawanda police as George Eberhart, 70, of Niagara Falls.
The accident resulted in the closing of the Youngmann Highway for more than seven hours. It re-opened early Friday morning.
