A UB Department of Music professor has a busy schedule.By Bill Raffel, WBFO

Buffalo, NY – Beethoven's greatest work for violin and piano will be featured at a recital on Wednesday (1/29). Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

Violinist Movses Pogossian was the first person from the Soviet Union to receive a fellowship at Tanglewood, and the youngest person to win to win First Prize in the USSR National Violin Competition. Now he lives outside of Detroit but is a regular commuter to the University at Buffalo, most notably to perform as part of the Baird Trio, with Pianist Stephen Manes and Cellist Jonathan Golove. But Pogossian is adding some other responsibilities.

See Violinist Movses Pogossian in recital with Pianist Stephen Manes Wednesday at eight in Slee Hall on UB's North Campus. Also in Slee Hall, UB will welcome an organ professor and several of students from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Professor Hans Davidsson performs on Friday (1/31) then the students on Saturday (2/1), both starting at 8 p.m.

More organ music at Saint Paul's Cathedral when the Cathedral's Assistant Organist and Choirmaster Andrew Kotylo gives a free half hour recital Friday at 12:30.

The Buffalo Philharmonic welcomes conductor and violinist Pinchas Zuckerman for a pair of concerts, featuring Mozart's Turkish Concerto and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. That's Friday (1/31) at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday (2/1) at 8 p.m., with pre-concert talks an hour earlier and pre-concert seat belt and registration sticker checks around the same time.

Then the BPO will hold a children's concert Sunday (2/2) at 2:30 p.m. called "Where in the World of Music is Carmen Sandiego?"

Finally, the annual Mozart Birthday Celebration with members of the BPO will be held tonight (Monday 1/27) in the Lancaster Opera House starting at 8 p.m.

Bill Raffel is WBFO's classical music reviewer, and Celtic music producer.
