Hear Us Out | Weaving Cultures in Sound

Calling all music enthusiasts ages 8 and older (and their accompanying adults) for a fantastic journey into the world of music. We proudly present "Weaving Cultures in Sound" with Buffalo String Works - an event that'll make your Saturday unforgettable!
Buffalo String Works students will perform an excerpt from Aka, a new classical composition inspired by traditional Burmese melodies. The piece was written by Burmese composer Wai Hin Ko, a PhD candidate in composition at UC Berkeley. It blends heritage and innovation – woven from folk themes into a cohesive work for strings. Learn about the history and mission of Buffalo String Works and watch a special video interview with Wai that will offer insight into the music, Burmese traditions, and his creative process. It’s a celebration of culture, community, and the power of young musicians.
Then take a look behind the scenes of television and radio with a tour of Buffalo Toronto Public Media's impressive studios!
Mark your calendars, grab your family and friends, and get ready for an afternoon filled with music, exploration, and unforgettable moments. We can't wait to see you at the "Weaving Cultures in Sound" with Buffalo String Works.
Parking is FREE in our gated parking lot, located on Charles Street!

About Buffalo String Works
Buffalo String Works was founded in 2014 to provide high-quality music education to children in Buffalo who might not otherwise have access. Rooted in Buffalo’s West Side, the program grew from the support of the local community and dedicated teaching artists.
Students receive instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Today, Buffalo String Works serves more than 150 students from across the city, teaching at multiple partner sites as well as in its own dedicated space.
The organization also proudly runs a robust student leadership program, helping students extend their growth beyond music. Through music, mentorship, and performance, Buffalo String Works empowers young people and prepares them for bright, meaningful futures.
