Buffalo, NY – Democratic Erie County legislators staged a rally outside the Rath Building Saturday, claiming county taxpayers are paying more in taxes this year.

Majority Leader Maria Whyte says County Executive Chris Collins should have lowered property taxes after he vetoed their added spending for arts and cultural groups.

"The county executive can't have it both ways," Whyte said. "He either needs to fund the things we value or he needs to give us the money back."

Collins office released a statement saying all taxpayers have to do is look at their county tax bills to know that Whyte us lying about Collins' record. The statement says the tax rate remains the same as last year.
