Commissioner Gipson was appearing with other local law enforcement officials at Cheektowaga Town Hall for a 10'o'lcock news conference on a new DWI law when he passed out. Cheektowaga Police Captain Jim Speyer witnessed the incident.
"It was more like a fainting spell. He was among other dignitaries standing up behind the podium and they were standing for quite a while. I think the heat and standing still effected him. He passed out for a little while. He came too right away. We summed for first aide and an ambulance just to play it safe and he was treated by them," said Captain Speyer.
Gipson is listed in stable but guarded condition at Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital in Buffalo for observation. He did not suffer a stroke or heart attack. But he did under go some tests and is expected to remain at Millard Gates for at least another day or two.
