Buffalo, NY – Despite some significant losses, Democrats say Tuesday night was a major victory for the party. They say holding onto the county comptroller's office made up for the rest.
The Democrats saw their shot at recapturing the sheriff's office for the first time in twelve years slip away. Cheektowaga Police Caption John Glascott lost in a fairly close race against Sheriff Tim Howard. Glascott thanked the party for its support and he thanked those at the Sheriff's department who broke ranks to back him.
The loss against the embattled and weakened Sheriff was one of the biggest of the night. But dampened spirits quickly rose as Comptroller Mark Poloncarz took the stage. Poloncarz says he won despite what he called a nasty campaign run by his opponent, Republican Phil Kadet. Poloncarz says he ran on his record of being an independent watchdog. And he says residents voted to keep checks and balances.
