Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown is defending the City's decision not to sell some East Side land two a family who wants it for farmland.
Mayor Brown says he supports the idea of urban farming. But he says the city must stick by its master plan for redevelopment. The issue or urban farming surfaced in a Buffalo News article on Sunday.
The Stevens family who lives on Buffalo's East Side want to buy a stretch of vacant property on Wilson Street from the City to set up an urban farm and grow vegetables. But according to the article, the City's Land Use Planning Committee rejected the request. The Economic Development Commissioner expects the land to be used for new homes with Habitat for Humanity. The Mayor says stands by that decision.
