Buffalo, NY – Former Vice President Al Gore brought his message on global warming to 3,400 area high school students at UB Friday.
Gore's lecture closely mirrored the slide show presentation in his critically acclaimed documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth." He kept the attention of the students, despite the nearly two-hour long, data-heavy presentation.
Gore told students there is real danger from global warming. But he says they can make a difference.
"Young people, you, have an opportunity to be the conscious of our country. If you speak out about this, if you take the time to learn about it and to confront those older than you with the truth about it, they don't have a good answer for that," Gore said. "It's important for you to be a part of the change that has to happen."
The loudest moments of applause came when Gore praised UB for its environmental efforts and Buffalo for being one of the cities that has embraced the Kyoto treaty.
