Buffalo, NY – Governor Pataki was in Washington Thursday to meet with the head of the military base closure committee. Pataki says the state will spend millions of dollars on the lobbying effort to protect New York's military installations from being shut down.
"We're doing everything in our power to protect our bases," Pataki said. "We know how bad New York was hurt in the past when we lost Griffis and Plattsburgh. We're concerned about this round as well."
The state has hired two major lobbying firms to help defend New York's military installations. Officials say they're concerned the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base could be targeted for closing this time.
