County Legislator Faces Eviction from District Office

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Republican Legislator Elise Cusack says she might be evicted from her district office in Amherst. The landlord hasn't received the rent.

Cusack says her landlord informed her that she could be kicked out of her Amherst office at the Northtown Plaza because he has not received the rent. The last quarterly payment was issued in December. But the county is now in the second quarter of the new year.

Cusack says she's on a mission to find out who is responsible for making sure the landlords receive timely rent payments for the district offices.

"Certainly, I've been talking with all different levels in county government in hopes that we can resolve this," Cusack said.

Cusack says it appears the responsibility of rent payments might fall to the Legislature chairman. But she says the process is very convoluted, and that she is extremely frustrated.

"I'm going to be introducing a resolution with some other legislators that asks the Chairman to report to the full body the financial standing of the Legislature itself," Cusack said. "We as legislators need to know where we stand, so we can operate our district offices."

Cusack says her landlord has been very patient up until now. She says if the problem is not resolved soon, she could be forced to leave her district office by the end of this month.
