Washington, DC – The number of "meth" labs near New York's borders with Pennsylvania and Canada is growing. As "meth" abuse spreads nationwide, lawmakers are jumping on the anti-meth bandwagon.
Meth labs in New York are not as common as they are in the Mid-west and West. But Henry Hamilton of the State Department of Environmental Conservation told a recent House hearing that the toxins left behind by meth labs are an increasing problem.
A bill moving through Congress would set voluntary national standards for decontaminating meth labs. It's receiving wide support among House members, including Buffalo area Democrat Louise Slaughter, because of its relatively small price tag.
